2021 EAA Air Adventure Extravaganza!

I've been to a lot of air shows over the course of 10 years since I got into photography. I have also attended many air shows before I got into photography too because of my huge love of flying and aviation.

However, the one air show I have always wanted to come to since my youth is none other than the EAA Air Adventure event held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. This air show in my book is the "granddaddy" and "ultimate" of all air shows.

Here you will see the greatest variety of aircraft demonstrations I would never be able to photograph anywhere else. There were also several "once in a lifetime" opportunities that would happen right here in the course of the 4 days I got to attend this magical event. I was very much like a boy going to Disneyworld for the first time and experiencing all this great excitement.

Coming to Oshkosh and attending EAA Air Adventure has been a dream that was 30 plus years in the making. I would like to give a huge shout-out to Marge and her sister Shari for their great hospitality and assistance in making this lifelong dream a reality.

In the course of the 4 days, I attended this air show. I took some 4,000 pictures and eventually broke it down to 200 plus pictures of some of the greatest flight demonstrations and displays you'll never see anywhere else but here.

Well come along with me as I take you on this "once in a lifetime" journey as this great dream comes true!

In this series of photographs, I will take you on a tour of a flying eye hospital. This team travels to some of the most underdeveloped countries around the globe rendering lifesaving eye care treatments and surgeries that we take so much for granted in America.<br />
<br />
I am visually impaired myself as I wear glasses. Without the glasses I am legally blind.<br />
<br />
I am often asked about how I can do photography with the limited vision I have. I actually see better through the viewfinder of my camera than with the naked eye when I am photographing a subject. The camera itself in an accommodation to that challenge. The aircraft is a modified MD-10 and is similar to the DC-10.

  • On the ground this area becomes a classroom for doctors who treat patients with the various eye diseases that live in the 3rd world countries the team travels to. In the air, this is the seating area for the medical team.
  • The exam and pre-treatment room located about at the halfway point of the aircraft.
  • The operating room area.
  • The operating room - different angle with the surgeon in the picture.
  • The recovery room which is at the back of the aircraft.
  • Well, this was going to happen sooner or later! In the cockpit of a United Airlines Boeing 737. It was actually a brand-new aircraft too. You could even smell the "new car" smell too. Well, I'm about to take it for a spin - He-He!
  • Saw this on the airport property and just had to take this as it is almost spelled like my last name.
  • And now the air show begins with a little bit of...<br />
<br />
"And the land of the free"<br />
"And the home of the brave"
  • Now begins day one with the Aeroshell Team I have seen at several air shows and always a joy to photograph with many great opportunities. The fly one of my favorite WWII trainer aircraft - North American AT-6 Texan.<br />
<br />
This is where pilots would hone their skills before getting to fly great aircraft like the P-51 Mustang, P-40 Warhawk aircraft that were common during the course of the war. These train for missions in both the European and Pacific theatres of the war.
